Silence cuts the air deeper than the oncoming autumn chills of weekday afternoons in the courtyard. Echoed laughter trickles in and suddenly the call of Sunday mornings beam the hurried footsteps of families in between church services.
Mom always said to slow down, to feel her warm palm against the icy metal of the handrails.
Hums from the fountain’s water spout tapping into its glimmering pool keeps in harmony with the pitter-pattering tune of tiny dressed feet across the hallways inside. Parents are still tugging their children along to drop them off at the little kid service.
They must get to their own big church service on the other side of this greenery-filled passage. Maybe grab an every-Sunday coffee in the cafe where the breeze cannot reach them before the worship music starts.
I guess they’re too busy to indulge in a little taste of Eden.
